About Me
The Benny’s Bakery Story

I have always loved baking and showing my creativity through food but I didn’t always think I would make it into a career. Throughout high school I was dead set on becoming a lawyer and I was planning everything around that path. I packed my schedule with business classes, joined the debate team, and made sure my grades were as good as they could be. But then after going through all that I realized that most of what I loved about being a lawyer (the in court drama) wasn’t what the reality of that job was going to be. I decided I didn’t want to spend years of time and money to do something I didn’t love with all my heart. That is when I turned to baking.
I wanted to turn my passions into a career and I kept coming back to

baking. I decided to go to culinary school specifically for baking and pastry and I loved it. I was accepted into Johnson and Wales for their Baking and Pastry program and was pretty set on going but then a swim coach from a school in Oregon reached out to me and wanted me to come swim for her. Luckily for me, the school she wanted me to swim for did have a culinary program and even better, they had a baking specific degree. I decided to go to Oregon Coast Culinary Institute so that I could swim for their partner school. Being an athlete and in culinary school definitely kept me busy but I would do it all over again if I could.

Coming out of school I decided I wanted to focus on cakes and develop my decorating skills. I got a job at a cupcake store and had a lot of fun. It was nice to go from the school setting to an actual brick and mortar store and be able to see how an actual bakery runs. Away from work I was making more and more cakes at home and had a lot of fun testing out new techniques. Eventually, I decided I needed to start making a brand for myself and that is where Benny’s was born.

I didn’t really have any names in mind but my uncle, Benny, was always invested in what I was making and wasn’t afraid to give me his honest opinion. Benny loves to cook and try out new recipes. He would make the savory and I would make the sweet. We would joke about when he makes it rich and famous he would pay for my bakery but then he would always get free samples. And through all of this I decided to name all of this after him. Plus Benny’s bakery rolls off the tongue better than Hannah’s bakery.
And that pretty much leads me to where I am now. I’m just going to continue making new cool creations and I can’t wait to share everything I make with all of you!
